Hey all, my brother brought his car over to my place so I can do a re-re for him. Its a 1991 civic-si (as far as I know)

His current engine is a D15B2 (9.2:1 compression) and I want to put in a D15B (15:1) according to wikipedia.

The D15B is throttle body, so I am going to use the multiport injection from the D15B2. Is there anything else I should know about this swap, or is it pretty strait forward. The D15B was rebuilt at one time and looks fresh, and the B2 needs a rebuild.

If the car was an "SI" it would have a d16a6 in it.

Yeah I dont know, Like I said its not my car. I just know its MPFI and it is not the original engine. I`m just going by engine codes that I see.

unless someone put a d15 in it previously... or is it a SE i know they are mpfi n d15....

So what is the difference between the engines than?? Is the "new" one more power, same or less...? flywheels etc are the same also?

Flywheels the same , clutch disc might differ depending what year there from spline counts diff on 88 .

Figured I'll post progress pics. Not much exciting has happened yet, but I'll start tearing the engines apart in the morning and see what all I gotta get in the way of parts. probably the basics like rear main, timing belt, alt belt, possible clutch swap etc. It all comes down to what my brother wants done.

Been busy with work and other projects, but I've still been working on this on the side. Dropped a new clutch onto it, intake gasket, timing belt, alt belt, and plugs. Swapped over intake manifolds and the old engine had a newer alternator. Pressure washed the transmission and going to paint it up silver. Its also going to be getting cap/rotor/wires. Should i do anything else while its out??

Also.. I need a throttle-body if anyone has one. I broke the tps off...

I have a throttlebody off my b18 IM that might work for you

Just give it the the 4function treatment and paint it battleship grey, colt 40 spec!

Mod of the day: Filled all the engine mounts with 3m urethane (or something of the sort) and gave a good degreasing to the trans.

I used proform seam sealer for my mounts... and it was the bomb!

Woaaah there champ...whats wrong with a spray painted bay? Some people dont have a spray booth in their garage, or thousands to throw at a shop to paint there stuff. I'm the one that did calle and my bays, pretty sure if the cars gonna be used, and have the odd person look in the bay, no ones gonna care how even the paint was layed down, or that they can see their ugly assed face in the reflection. Really...its gonna get greasy and scratched up..so why spend $$$$ on it when you can spend $30 and your set?

Spraybombed engine bays are sooo rad that I even rocked one in the EG.

And on the note of cheapness, I used non-aerosol tremclad to do the engine bay on the daily mule.

Because for $ 30, you could buy real paint. That is if you already own (or can borrow) an air compressor and a cheap touch-up gun. I sprayed the Green Bastard's bay in my crap garage with a portable compressor, a $14 princess auto touch up gun, and $30 or $40 in paint, and you CAN see my ugly face in it, it is not greasy after two summers of running, and I would happily show it to anyone, as it looks like a million bucks. Tremclad is just a horrible idea, as it fades, and if you want to "upgrade" to real paint later, good luck dealing with the shit tremclad causing crow's-feet (even WITH a sealer!)

Spend 10 bucks on a degreaser n pressure wash it why have a engine bay that doesn't match the rest of the car

Cleaned the engine bay up with degreaser along with the tranny.

So onto the engines. The spline-count was different between the two clutches and tranny's. The flywheels where also different. About 3/4' difference between the clutches so I re-used the one I took off the original engine as it was larger in diameter and matches a transmission I know is good. Took me a few days to find a 17mm 12 point socket to remove the flywheel, downtime sucks. Engine is together except starter, just waiting to fix the tps so i can drop it in. Lack of pics, but nothing exciting other than its taking me a fucking month to get this shit done. Been so busy with other shit.

Engine is in, it cranks but wont start. I have NO FUEL PRESSURE!! What could I have done wrong?? Anyone want to come over and diagnose?? Is there a fuel pump bypass circut anywhere that I should be aware of? Car is going to revelstoke on thursday, so I've got wed only to work on it.

Is the fuel pump priming?

no, fp is not priming. All wiring that I unplugged is hooked up except tps which shouldnt matter. I must have missed something...

Check your grounds and main relay. Give the thermostat ground a good cleaning and tighten it down good.

rechecked grounds, using a few pairs of jumpers for more misc grounds. Turning over fast now, bypassed fp circut but still no go. Distributor looks to only fit in one way so fuck i've got no idea.

you getting fuel pressure now?

Ah yeah, if I bypass the circut it gets fuel but still wont spark. No fuel if i'm not bypassing it. I must have a bad connection in one of the harness's

Thanks to BenJ For the help. Engine is up and running, not well... but its alive! Now onto more problem solving why it idles like a 2-stroke

Is it idling too fast or too slow?

IACV/ EACV (it bolts onto the back of the IM close to the throttle body) has a 2pin connector and 2 coolant lines.
Try removing it and cleaning it out with carb cleaner/brake kleen.

idles at the right rpm, but its got a horrible stumble. Even if i hold the rpm at like 3g's it still runs awkward. Cant say I blame it, no tps, no coolant, timing isnt set, spark plug wires are shorting out and running off jumper cables. Bound to be issues. I'll fuck with it on sunday
